Sylvia Garuba

Sylvia Garuba, LL.B, BL, ChMC, Secretary and Director

Sylvia is a legal consultant with over 30 years of experience in legal practice and consultancy in the corporate and commercial industry. She is skilled in legal document preparation, negotiation of complex commercial and real estate deals, arbitration, dispute resolution, structuring and drafting of complex commercial and contract transactions within the energy, oil and gas industry, and in real estate development, leasing and management.
Sylvia holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and Barrister at Law designation. She is also a Chartered Mediator and Conciliator. She began her career in legal practice in 1984 as a senior state counsel before moving into the energy, oil and gas industry as a legal adviser and company secretary.
She subsequently joined a private law firm and within a year, restructured the client base of the firm and tripled its revenue. She became a managing partner of the firm shortly thereafter. She has handled various residential and commercial real estate development, leasing and management projects among others.
Sylvia worked as a legal liaison for the West African operations for CPCS Transcom Limited, a transportation advisory and consultancy service based in Ottawa from 2000- 2003. She also sits on the board of various NGOs on an advisory and consultancy basis. In addition, she manages family-owned real estate suites, a private legal consultancy service.
Sylvia is currently the African Missions Representative for RCCG Canada, a not-for-profit religious organization in charge of social and basic amenities provision in rural African countries (2012 – present). In that position, she also provided microfinance loans for locally-owned small businesses for women in rural Nigeria for their business and to build and own their own homes in support of shelter for all initiatives.
